Fire & Rescue Blog – Mass Casualty Incident

I received a great request for information from Sean, a Safety Specialist in Buffalo, NY. He was looking for information regarding “Mass Casualty Incidents (MCI)”, specifically “Active Shooter (AS)” response procedures.  Through the VFIS training department, I was able to get my hands on some excellent material from multiple sources.  Here are links to the documents, and I urge each of you to share this information with your local Fire/EMS department and Law Enforcement agency.

Remember, having a plan in place is going to be better than learning on the fly during an emergency.

This first link will take you to a PowerPoint and Video from the FSF seminar. The presentation includes MCI statistics from 2007-2012, as well as subjects for discussions on SOPs.

This is the most comprehensive website I have found for MCI-AS Response. Here you will find information for everyone, including Firefighters, EMS, Police Officers, even Civilians.  With free webinars, links to classroom training, and downloadable resources, every First Responder can benefit from this page.

I would like to thank Sean from Buffalo, NY for getting me started on this topic and VFIS for pointing me in the right direction.
